The Thackeray brothers have officially declared an alliance between the Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) and the MNS. However, the seat-sharing formula for the Mumbai civic polls has not yet been revealed. How many seats MNS will contest and how many will go to the Shiv Sena faction remains unclear.

Meanwhile, a major political development has emerged. According to sources, the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) has halted alliance talks with the Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction).
