(RBI Repo Rate EMI Reduction)

“We are monitoring banks closely. If interest rates don’t reduce soon, stricter steps will follow,”

Mumbai | RBI Repo Rate Update:

There is a big relief coming soon for loan borrowers across the country. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has recently reduced the repo rate by 25 basis points, and EMI on home, car and personal loans is now expected to come down soon.

Despite the reduction in repo rate, several banks have not passed on the benefit to their existing customers. Taking serious note of this, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra held an urgent meeting with the heads of major public and private sector banks.

In the meeting, the RBI Governor issued strict instructions, saying:
“Pass on the full benefit of the repo rate cut to customers immediately. Do not delay. This is public money.”

Why EMIs Will Soon Reduce?

Since February 2025, RBI has reduced the repo rate by 1.25% (125 basis points) in total, bringing it down to 5.25%.
With borrowing becoming cheaper for banks, they are expected – and now ordered – to reduce lending rates for customers.

However, many banks continued to charge older, higher interest rates. As a result, RBI warned them of strict action if rates are not reduced soon.
